Ads for Ad’s Sake – Caveman’s Crib

Geico has extended its memorable, but entirely non-sequitur, Caveman ads with an online component at http://www.cavemanscrib.com/.

Caveman’s Crib

The site is a virtual walkthrough of the Geico caveman’s swanky apartment. Much like the ads themselves, there is almost no mention of Geico anywhere in the apartment (and there is a lot to see here). The Geico plugs feel more like easter eggs, like the ones buried in the Esperanto refrigerator magnets. No, I’m not kidding.

Another interesting thing is the caveman’s ambiguous sexuality. In a journal tucked under the pillow in the bedroom (like I said, lots to see here) their is a reference to a breakup with “Alex”. No gendered pronouns are ever used.

Caveman’s Crib 2

Overall the site is very entertaining, but I mostly wonder how, or why, it sells car insurance. It certainly didn’t prompt me to pick up the phone. then again, I don’t own a car.

I love the cavemen commerical, it doesn’t matter how many times I watch it, it always make me laugh. I hope the cavemen series continues.
