I’ve done a lot of silly things in my life. Taping Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve 2007 so I could go to sleep at 10:30, without missing the ball drop, has got to be high on that list.

Being as I am old and fat, I had no expectations of a “rockin’” eve. Also, having a 3 month old makes sleep somewhat unpredictable. Those rare occasions when sleep is possible can come from out of nowhere and can be gone just as quickly. So, at 10:30 p.m. on the 31st, I set my DVR to tape the ball drop and went to sleep.

The following morning we had big plans. The previous year we had a New Years Day Party with the goal of celebrating those of us too lame to stay out late or too hungover to do much of anything at all. This year we planned an even more obnoxiously lame party. It was to be the world’s lamest new years party. However, it was maybe a little too lame. Nobody showed.

Mission accomplished.
