Barack Obama vs. The Racist Right (Part I of II)

In light of recent events, I think we need to clarify a few things.

Barack Obama is from Honolulu, Hawaii, not Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. You’re thinking of Osama Bin Laden. Don’t worry. Its easy to make that mistake, especially if you are racist and/or can’t read.

Barack Obama is a member of Chicago’s Trinity United Church of Christ. He is not an active member of al-Qaeda. You’re still thinking of Osama Bin Laden. Again, easy mistake.

Barack Obama is a Democratic Junior Senator from Illinois, not the President and head of the Baath Party. That is (was) Saddam Hussein. Now, I know this one is a little more confusing since Barack Obama’s middle name is Hussein. But no, seriously. You’re an idiot.

You may be reading this and thinking to yourself “Ok, sure. That is all very logical. Only an idiot would confuse Barack Obama with The Butcher of Baghdad or Tally bin Tallson. This is true. I agree. That is what make this story from http://thinkprogress.org even more astonishing.

Obama Smeared As Former ‘Madrassa’ Student, Possible Covert Muslim Extremist
This morning, Fox News featured a segment highlighting a right-wing report that Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) attended an Islamic “madrassa” school as a 6-year-old child.

Fox & Friends host Steve Doocy pointed out that madrassas are “financed by Saudis” and “teach this Wahhabism which pretty much hates us,” then declared, “The big question is: was that on the curriculum back then?” Later, a caller to the show questioned whether Obama’s schooling means that “maybe he doesn’t consider terrorists the enemy.” Fox anchor Brian Kilmeade responded, “Well, we’ll see about that.”

The Fox hosts failed to correct the false claim that Obama is Muslim. One caller, referring to Obama, said, “I think a Muslim would be fine in the presidency, better than Hillary. At least you know what the Muslims are up to.” Anchor Gretchen Carlson responded, “We want to be clear, too, that this isn’t all Muslims, of course, we would only be concerned about the kind that want to blow us up.” Obama is Christian, a member of Chicago’s Trinity United Church of Christ since 1988.

More here.

This is surely a preview of what is to come from the people who are trying to make 2008 “The Year of the Ill-informed Racist.”

More on this topic soon…

You appear to be so engulfed in Leftism that you see already a vast White Wing Conspiracy that is but mirage. Predictably you take Fox News as the offical mouthpiece of the Right. Bull. More than all that, I take major exception to your expression “The Racist Right.” This gross stereotyping is an insult as much as it is ingnorant. I am a member of a Republican organization that regularly marches in the local MLK parade because we, like most conservatives, strongly believe that all men are created equal.

The most disgusting part of all is that we even find it necessary to mention the color of Obama’s skin.

I have a ton of respect for Obama. He is one of the most articulate politicians out there from either party. And I believe he is a patriot. But I strongly disagree with most of his policies. So I don’t support him. But I respect him. And most of my conservative friends feel likewise.

And finally, while I take offense to your implication that because I am part of the Right I am probably a racist who thinks Obama is sympathetic to Islamofascists, I do appreciate that you are one of the too-small percentage of Americans who like myself care about it enough to take action.

Cheers.

So, to clarify:
To insinuate, by way of gross exaggeration and fabrication, that a moderate American politician and UCC parishioner, who’s middle name happens to be Hussein, is a radical Islamic terrorist = Not stereotyping

Chiding the “news” organization that made these remarks = GROSS stereotyping.

Glad we could clear that up.

Incidentally, I did not mean to imply that all Republicans are racists. I am sorry if you took offense. However, I do expect to see a lot more of this kind of racist tactic being employed by Republican strategists in the upcoming election cycle. God knows they have done worse before. (i.e.: calling voters during the 2000 primary and insinuating that John McCain’s adopted Bangladeshi daughter was actually a vietcong love child).

If this kind of strategy works… well then we have bigger issues as a Country.
